🌱 RRISD Police Chief Is Leaving + Local With Rent Relief Evicted

Here are the top three stories in Round Rock today:

1. Round Rock school district police chief, Jeff Yarbrough, will begin his new job as Hutto police chief on Apr. 18, 2022. Spokeswoman Jenny Lacoste-Caputo said, "Chief Yarbrough has designed and implemented a model for school policing that is student-centered and has become a national model for school systems. While we hate to lose him, we wish him the best in his next role. The city of Hutto could not have chosen a better candidate." (Austin American-Statesman)
2. Some Texas landlords received COVID-19 rent relief from the government and still evicted their tenants. Stephanie Gates, a 42-year-old Round Rock resident, worked as a temp at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport but lost her job during the pandemic. She says was approved for rent relief, but the check was sent to the wrong address and even though her landlord reportedly knew the check was on its way, he still evicted Gates. Williamson County Justice of the Peace KT Musselman granted the eviction. Gate's attorney Alexander Stamm said, "Musselman shouldn’t have let the trial take place at all because of a Texas Supreme Court order requiring judges to postpone eviction cases if a landlord confirms they have joined a tenant’s application for rent relief."
