Here are the top three stories today in Round Rock:

  1. Last week at the Texas Capitol, lawmakers questioned how the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC) is addressing social media threats and concerns. David Lakey, MD, presiding officer of TCMHCC, said, "That hasn’t been part of our work thus far" and those services are still being developed. Round Rock ISD, Austin ISD, and other local districts are now using Gaggle to monitor students' online activity. Gaggle reported it sent 26,000 alerts so far this past school year in Texas. (KXAN)
  2. On Saturday, Jun. 25, President Joe Biden signed new gun safety legislation: the bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, who represents Uvalde, was the only U.S. Texas GOP member in the House to vote in favor of the bill. Rep. Gonzales said, "To me, it was very simple: 'would this legislation have prevented the Uvalde shootings?' The answer is 'yes.'" Republican Rep. John Carter of Round Rock voted against the bill. (Austin American-Statesman)
  3. Yesterday, Jun. 26, the Texas Rangers announced multiple roster moves. Pitcher Josh Sborz was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, outfielder Steven Duggar was added to the 26-man active roster and reported to club, and pitcher Glenn Otto was activated from the COVID-19 Related Injured List.
