Here are the top stories in Round Rock today:

  1. Round Rock ISD Superintendent Dr. Hafedh Azaiez weighs in on Governor's campaign topic, "School Choice": a conceptual education program where parents who opt to homeschool or choose private or charter school for their children, will be able to utilize their own education funds on whichever schooling they choose. Dr. Azaiez says that if this type of program were to be passed into law, that the public school system could suffer more than it already has with the strain of teacher retention and other challenges. He also mentions how public schools are held to higher expectations to receive funding v.s. private and charter schools having to meet less expectations, yet still receive the same if not more funding than public schools. (Spectrum News)
  2. Here are some local repairs and improvements that will help connectivity throughout Round Rock: Walkway and sidewalk improvements in East Downtown Round Rock, adding right-turn lanes to the Chandler Creek and Old Settlers Blvd. intersections north of A.W. Grimes Blvd., a water line project along I-35 northbound frontage road, and Red Bud Lane north four-lane widening. (Community Impact Newspaper)
  3. Local Round Rock esthetician, Christina Morgan, helps women feel more normal after overcoming breast cancer. Morgan worked on earning her paramedical tattoo license after her friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. She performs areola tattooing for women who have gotten mastectomies following a breast cancer diagnosis. Morgan informs that most insurance companies will cover the costs of areola tattoos (Community Impact)
  4. The time is almost here! The Texas Marching Classic competition will be available to watch via live stream. This event takes place on Oct. 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. The participating bands come from all over Texas and have worked extremely hard to gain as many points as possible leading up to the big competition weekend. Some of our local band high schools that will be competing are: Round Rock, Stony Point, and McNeil High Schools. (FloMarching)

  • Did you know that the Immortal Ten Bridge in Downtown Round Rock serves as a memorial to a tragedy that took place 95 years ago? It is adorned in Baylor's school colors, green and yellow because of the tragic bus crash that killed players, staff, and coaches as Baylor was on their way to a game in Austin. (Facebook)
