Here are the top stories in Round Rock today:
- Round Rock Police Department recently honored Karma, a retired K9 who passed away earlier this year in July. Karma served the people of Round Rock for a long six years, including several high-profile drug busts, as well as many community outreach events. Karma's partner-in-crime was Detective Tracy Warren. The bond between Detective Warren and Karma was incredibly strong as soon as Warren picked him up from a local animal shelter. We are sending our most well wishes to Detective Warren and all of Round Rock Police Department for the loss of K9 Karma. (Facebook)
- Brushy Creek fisherman Chris Johnson has hope that the aquatic wildlife will return even more so than it already has, after overflow from the Brushy Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant has seen some improvement since previous leaks have been remedied. Johnson is a longtime fly fisherman of the area and he had sent photos to Round Rock leaders of the solid waste and other pollution that had contaminated the beloved creek he regulars to fly fish earlier this year. The City of Round Rock fixed this issue as soon as they could after this communication. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the health of the creek is getting better and hopefully will continue on this path with further solutions to filter the water thoroughly in the works. - Round Rock resident, Michael Roberts, was arrested on September 15th. Roberts was charged with three counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place via federal indictment. Roberts is an Austin ISD teacher and allegedly traveled to Columbia to have sex with minors. If convicted, Roberts faces up to 30 years in each case, with an alleged three minors under investigation. There are no current investigations or allegations open with Austin ISD staff or students. Roberts did pass his background check for the 2021-2022 school year earlier this year.
