Here are the top three stories today in Round Rock:
- Round Rock police released the name of the 14-year-old who was tragically killed in a vehicle crash on Jul. 31. Tobias Soto, 14, was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by the stolen vehicle. He was propelled about 300 feet and died at the scene. The driver of the stolen vehicle, 25-year-old Leandro Brito-Martinez, admitted to police that he knew the car was stolen and "was driving 'so fast' as he approached the intersection that he couldn't stop and remembers seeing a body being thrown." (CBS Austin)
- On Aug. 3, the City of Round Rock announced that Ramsey Saad was selected to be the Chief Information Officer for the City's IT Department. City Manager Laurie Hadley said, "Ramsey has led several organization-wide initiatives over the years to harness new technology so we can provide exceptional service to the citizens of Round Rock." - This summer, Round Rock ISD's Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School orchestras earned top marks at the Texas Music Educators (TMEA) Honor Band competition. The Canyon Vista String Orchestra won second place, the Canyon Vista Full Orchestra won third place, and the Westwood Full Orchestra won third place. (Round Rock ISD News)
