- A three-day weekend of “That Takes the Cake!” is coming to Round Rock starting March 31. In the sugar arts show and cake contest, competitors vie for medals and cash prizes, while "attendees can learn how to decorate cartoon-themed cakes, cookies, or learn how to craft sugar flowers." The event is organized by Austin nonprofit Capital Confectioners. Visit CultureMap Austin for more information.
- Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan looked back on the EF-2 tornado that hit the city last year. He noted that though peoples' homes and property were damaged, lives weren't lost, which is an amazing thing. Resident Richard Parson said "I have PTSD: Post-Tornado Stress Disorder - I heard some loud noises, and it probably was a train or a plane, but it triggered me." Some homes are still awaiting repairs. KVUE has more details.
- National Preservation Month is coming in May, when "local preservation and civic organizations spotlight their preservation programs and heritage tourism." The theme will be "People Saving Places." Some events to plan for: "National Historic Marker Day, Pioneer Days at Old Settlers Park, Lunch and Learn: The Walsh Family and the Round Rock White Lime Co. More info at City of Round Rock.
