Here are the top four stories in Round Rock today:
- Over the weekend, vandals spray-painted and keyed cars and broke a windshield at a Round Rock apartment complex. Neighbors at Lakeside at La Frontera say they have been waking up to vandalism in the parking garage on a regular basis for months. The property manager wrote to tenants, "We cannot guarantee that our community will be free of criminal
activity. Cameras, limited access gates, and courtesy officers are put in place to potentially deter criminal activity or vandalism." (KEYE TV CBS Austin) - On Thursday, Aug. 4, a 54-year-old disabled Marine filed a lawsuit against three unnamed officers and Round Rock Police Chief Allan Banks for alleged unlawful arrest and use of excessive force. According to a federal lawsuit, Darrell Collin's service dog was unleashed which caused an argument between the veteran and three Round Rock police officers. Collins was allegedly slammed to the ground, which broke his sternum, and then was tased. He is seeking $5 million in damages for physical injuries and emotional pain and suffering. On Friday, Aug. 5, Round Rock police spokesman Nick Olivier said, "The city does not comment on pending litigation." (Austin American Statesman)
- On Aug. 5, Delizioso Delicatessen & Charcuterie held a soft opening at the former Long Island Deli location in Round Rock. Located at 1207 E. Palm Valley Boulevard next to Lonestar Kolaches. (Community Impact Newspaper)
- The Round Rock ISD board of trustees will hold a regular and special election on Nov. 8. Five of the seven board seats, Places three, four, five, and six, will be decided in the elections. (Community Impact)
