WilCo Reveals 10 More Coronavirus Deaths, Fatality Count Now 89

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Williamson County officials on Thursday reported ten more deaths from the coronavirus — upping the historical fatality count to 89 — while noting nine of the victims succumbed earlier in the month.

"Nine of the deaths reported today occurred over the dates of July 15 to July 22," health officials wrote in an email. "The backlog was due to a delay in reporting to the Williamson County and Cities Health District."

The latest reported victims of the respiratory illness — for which no vaccine exists — included four men and six women. One of the men succumbing to the illness was in his 70s while three were in their 80s. One woman in her 50s died of the illness, along with two women in their 70s, another pair in their 80s and one in her 90s, officials said.

Patient privacy laws prevented health officials from releasing further details.

“Today, I am calling on the Williamson County family to join me in prayer to lift up the lives lost due to this deadly disease," Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said in a prepared statement. "I pray for the safety and healing of the family members as they cope with this tragedy. We are in this together, WilCo!”

As always, county health officials urge those experiencing respiratory illness symptoms — cough, fever and shortness of breath to name three — to contact their health care providers. However, health officials stress the importance of calling ahead before arriving at a clinic, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potential spread.
