City Council decided against Flock Safety contract renewal (universitystar.com) — San Marcos City Council has voted not to renew its contract with Flock Safety, meaning the city’s 14 license plate reader cameras will eventually go offline unless a new vendor is chosen. Council members cited privacy, legal liability, and effectiveness concerns, while also noting residents’ preference for camera systems operated directly by the city of San Marcos instead of a third-party company.

All eligible San Marcos PD officers earn mental health crisis certification (kvue.com) — San Marcos police say every eligible frontline officer has now earned a state-recognized Mental Health Peace Officer certification, boosting the department’s ability to handle crises. With 76 certified officers—most in public-facing roles—leaders emphasize de-escalation, support, and connecting residents in crisis to appropriate help as newer officers cycle into the training.

South Texas man sets world record for oldest wingsuit jumper (ksat.com) — A 68-year-old thrill-seeker who jumps at Skydive Spaceland San Marcos has set a Guinness World Record as the oldest person to fly in a wingsuit, achieving the feat at age 67. Now living in South Texas, he credits the San Marcos skydiving community for helping him train through fear, master safety techniques, and plan even more record attempts in his 70s.

Creative convalescence (sanmarcosrecord.com) — Patients at Ascension Seton Hays and other Central Texas hospitals are finding comfort in large metal sculptures created by artist Joshua Farrell, whose work also appears at the San Marcos Public Library. Farrell’s tree- and robot-themed pieces aim to bring hope, reflection, and joy to people healing or supporting loved ones across the region.

5. Ex-Georgia State, LSU, Auburn, Texas State, WKU QB T.J. Finley lobbying to return in 2026 (flywareagle.com) — Former Texas State quarterback T.J. Finley, who once starred in San Marcos, is seeking a seventh year of college eligibility through an NCAA waiver. He says leaving San Marcos was difficult and calls his last two seasons at Western Kentucky and Georgia State the most challenging of his life, even as he weighs where his winding college career might continue next.
