Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- Community for Life Foundation designed to help San Antonio students be successful. “We want to help today’s learners become tomorrow’s leaders. So we’ve given over $700,000 to more than 327 recipients,” said the foundation’s executive director, Dr. Lawrence Scott. “We’ve had over 25,000 in our own ‘Give Thanks’ initiative. We send care packages (and) we provide tutoring sessions, annual career college readiness sessions.” There are opportunities for students to apply and for volunteers to help out. (KSAT San Antonio)
- 4 San Antonio lakes are being stocked with thousands of rainbow trout. Get ready San Antonio anglers, more fishing opportunities are coming to local lakes. The stocking of the lakes with the "easy-to-catch" fish is part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Neighborhood Fishin' program. The Southside Lions Park, near Pecan Valley Drive, and Miller's Pond, on Old Pearsall Road, were both were stocked with the trout on Nov. 24; stocking continues on Dec. 23, Jan. 21, and Feb. 18. - San Antonio to be the first Texas city to try out cooler pavement to combat warm temperatures. The lack of tree canopy or greenery, and heat-retaining materials like concrete walls and asphalt can result in much warmer temperatures in urban areas. It’s called the urban heat island effect. It leads to significantly warmer temperatures in the city during the summer months. It’s a problem the City of San Antonio is aware of and attempting to find ways to combat. (KSAT San Antonio)
