Just arrive on time with your child or ward to register starting at 10 a.m., then it’s first-come, first-served, with some kids also scoring raffle tickets for a chance to win a new bike.
   

2. Good news for Texas drivers: Gas is nearly 40 cents cheaper than the US average. How low are prices in San Antonio? (kens5.com) — San Antonio drivers are paying about $2.50 for a gallon of regular gas this weekend, one of the lowest prices among major Texas cities and well below the national average. Only Houston is cheaper, while updated city-by-city averages show how the Alamo City compares statewide for both regular and diesel fuel.
   

3. Pearl apartment complex across river to more than double in size (star-telegram.com) — A major new apartment project across the San Antonio River from Pearl is set to more than double in size, with Oxbow Development now planning 323 units plus ground-floor retail on Elmira Street. Backed by earlier city and Bexar County incentives at Pearl, the expansion reflects strong demand, less on-site parking, and investor interest, with construction expected to start next summer and finish in 2028.
   

4. Construction worker killed after falling from scaffolding, suffering cardiac arrest (news4sanantonio.com) — A construction worker died Thursday afternoon after suffering a medical emergency and falling from scaffolding at a major hotel construction site near I-10 and Rim Pass on San Antonio’s North Side. Fire crews responded around 4:14 p.m. for a reported cardiac arrest, but the worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
   

5. Salvation Army helps thousands of San Antonio children through Angel Tree program (ksat.com) — Thousands of San Antonio children are getting Christmas gifts this year through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, with families lining up near Frost Bank Center to pick up wish-list bags. Supported heavily by local volunteers and even TikTok donors, the decades-old effort now serves more than 6,000 kids while helping parents celebrate with dignity.
