Woman Goes to San Antonio Riverwalk. Then Something Startles Her So Hard She Screams: 'Can You See It?'

'He got me a few weeks back.'

A woman took a recent trip to the San Antonio Riverwalk, only to see something moving inside a bush on the other side of the waterway. Curious, she took out her phone and started recording something truly outrageous.

Gladys Morales, a San Antonio teacher and avid crafter, took a recording while on the Riverwalk. At first, everything was still. Then, a person screamed when a hand shot out from the bush, which prompted Morales to caption her video, “Can you see it?”

For an unsuspecting eye, it’s not clear exactly what’s going on. But the unknown prank assailant appears to be just another part of a day at the riverwalk, according to the teacher.

What Has Been Scaring People in San Antonio, Texas?

Morales’s video is blurry and somewhat hard to follow at first, but with a keen eye, viewers can make out a person hiding in the bushes waiting for people to walk by. A “bush” physically moved in the night, making many identify the creature as a human “dressed” in a bush costume. Somewhat similar to a “scarer” in a haunted house, a person took an opportunity to freak out some unsuspecting victims and tourists.

After all, the San Antonio Riverwalk is an immensely popular attraction, with an estimated 11.5 million visitors coming to see the river annually. It’s a prime spot that has continual visitors. Often, these people don’t travel twice, giving the scare variety.

Who Is This ‘BushMan’ That Commenters Refer To?

The BushMan is not just a random stranger. Instead, it appears to be (@tampabushman) a TikTok content creator with over 16,000 followers.

The Tampa BushMan has made a multitude of videos from San Antonio. There are hundreds of videos throughout this year detailing BushMan attacks, usually in a few select locations. At times, the BushMan moves upward toward the street. Other times, he stays close to the water, lurking at stairwells past the River City Mall and closer toward the Alamo walkway.

He’s made appearances near the Torch of Friendship, La Antorcha de la Amistad. He’s also appeared near iconic cafes. At times, viewers can even see the Tower of the Americas perfectly situated in the middle of his camera frame, but other times, he’s in completely different locations.

His appearances at the Riverwalk seem to usually happen during the day, although he does make some night scares based on his overall content. The BushMan appears to have no modus operandi other than to have a laugh and pester some visitors. As he apparently states, “laughter is healing,” but he’s apparently been “kicked out” of other areas.

As one commenter described, “BushMan used to [do] this on Houston street but got himself in trouble with too many tourists lol.”

What do San Antonio Residents Think?

San Antonio residents are happy with the BushMan based on Morales’s comment section, however. They consider him a fun addition to the Riverwalk and worthy of accolades for his contributions to the iconic tourist destination.

“That guy needs to be given an award for just spreading happiness and promoting the city,” said one commenter on Morales’s post.

So for now, the BushMan appears to be staying. If you’re ever visiting the Riverwalk, look out for any oddly shaped bushes on your journey.
