Hurricane Harvey: Levee Breached At Columbia Lakes

BREAKING: An emergency notice posted by officials told residents to "get out now!"

COLUMBIA LAKES, TX — The levee at Columbia Lakes, which is just south of Houston, has been breached, Emergency officials in Brazoria County said Tuesday morning.

"Get out now!" an emergency message from county officials said.

A map provided by Brazoria County shows areas that are under mandatory evacuation. On Sunday, a mandatory evacuation was issued for residents living west of State Highway 288 and south of State Highway 6.

As early as Sunday, deputies were going door to door in the resort community issuing a flood warning, local news outlet The Facts reported. The flyer being given to residents read "flooding of Columbia Lakes is imminent. Please evacuate now."

Brazoria County officials have provided residents with a list of shelters available.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Monday, the Brazos River in West Columbia was at 28.41 feet and the flood stage for the river is 30 feet.
