Katy Area Economic Development Council Receive Update On New FedEx Ground Center
Ground broke on the project roughly a year ago and according to Bates the facility is set to open in September.

KATY, TX —The Katy Area Economic Development Council held its May General Assembly meeting on May 16 at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex.
Brady Bates of FedEx Ground headlined the meeting with a presentation on the new 800,000 square-foot FedEx Ground distribution center which is being constructed on Grand Parkway north of Interstate-10.
Ground broke on the project roughly a year ago and according to Bates the facility is set to open in September.

The massive facility will become one of the larger distribution centers in the region, initially boasting roughly 700 trailer parking spots and 144 loading doors on 229 acres.
The most impressive stat shared by Bates, up to 180,000 packages will be processed per day which translates to roughly 20,000 packages a day being delivered directly from the facility.

To staff the facility, FedEx is hiring roughly 600 employees for roles such as Operations Managers, Package Handlers and Admin Managers.

Bates is also involved with the Katy Area EDC Mobility and Public Infrastructure Committee as well as with Greater Houston Partnership.
The current facility under construction will be expanded as part of a Phase 2 growth plan.
The distribution center will be expanded to over 1.1 million sq. ft. and employ 2,200 people total with a daily package processing rate of around 500,000.
Full Phase 2 completion is expected within approximately two years. “This is an impressive facility being constructed by FedEx Ground,” noted Katy Area EDC President/CEO Lance LaCour. “Though just outside Katy ISD boundaries, the facility will have a major impact on our area and the entire west Houston region with its job creation.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Katy Area EDC honored longtime CenterPoint Energy Manager of Economic Development John Cook. Cook is retiring and the Katy Area EDC thanked him for his tremendous working partnership over the last several years.
“John has been an asset to our organization and our area,” said LaCour. “I would like to personally thank him for his great work over the years.” New Katy Area EDC members recognized for the month of May included Associate level members Magnolia Property Management, Promotional Edge and The Voice Society.
