- Midcoast Family Services is addressing the increasing homeless population in Victoria by creating a new day center, made possible through a generous $195,000 grant from the city. The facility aims to meet the essential needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, offering services like showers, laundry access, and the support of case managers. Anticipated to open on Oct. 1, the day center will be situated behind the Midcoast Family Services thrift store at the intersection of Navarro and Virginia streets. (Cross Roads Today)
- The City of Victoria and Brannan Paving Company are addressing the effects of a recent heat wave that caused bleeding on newly sealed roads in certain areas of the city. To mitigate the issue, they have been applying a lime-and-water solution to cool and harden the roads. This treatment, along with minor repairs and curing time, will help resolve the bleeding. If the chip seal gets stuck on cars or driveways, residents can use asphalt removers or cleaners labeled for asphalt to remove it. (City of Victoria, Texas)
- In observance of Juneteenth, all nonemergency offices in the City of Victoria will be closed on Monday, Jun. 19. The Victoria Public Library will close early at 5:00 p.m., while the compost site and landfill will remain open. Garbage, curbside recycling, yard waste, and tree limb collections will proceed as scheduled. Additionally, Riverside Golf Course will be open for regular operations. (City of Victoria, Texas)
