  1. Victoria County has received a grant of $71,230 from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission to support its public defense efforts. However, this grant is separate from the funding for the proposed public defender office, which is estimated to be worth $2.7 million and will be decided upon later this summer. The county aims to establish a full-time public defender office to improve efficiency and reduce costs in providing indigent criminal defense. (Victoria Advocate)
  2. Officials from Victoria's local government and schools in Texas have enhanced their ability to work together during a public safety emergency through training exercises conducted by the Victoria Office of Emergency Management. The exercise, held at Howell Middle School and neighboring areas, involved various agencies such as law enforcement and fire departments. The simulated scenario of an active shooter incident at a school tested their response capabilities, including securing the scene, providing medical care, and reuniting students with their families, leading to valuable insights for further improving emergency readiness. (Victoria Texas Government)
  3. The Environmental Services Division's Mosquito Control Program in Victoria County takes a proactive approach to managing mosquitoes. They identify problem areas, conduct surveillance, and implement control measures to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats and control both immature and adult mosquitoes. Residents can report mosquito issues in populated areas to request spraying in their vicinity by calling (361)578-6281 ext. 3400 or filing a complaint online here. (Victoria County Texas Government)
