Ascension Providence glows pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Ascension Providence will glow pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, serving as a reminder to women to get regular mammograms.
One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the second leading cause of death among women in the U.S. In 2022, an estimated 287,500 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. as well as 51,400 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Early diagnosis dramatically increases oneβs chances of survival. More than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors are alive today in the U.S., according to the foundation.
Regular cancer screening is still important. Women 40 and older should have mammograms every 1 or 2 years. Women who are younger than 40 and have risk factors for breast cancer should ask their healthcare professional whether mammograms are advisable and how often to have them. Do not delay screenings, as early detection is critically important to the best breast cancer outcomes.
