Ascension Providence provides free medical care clinic on Aug. 13

Ascension Providence will host Medical Mission at Home, a free healthcare clinic at The BASE, located at 4401 Bosque Blvd on Saturday, August 13, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ascension Providence will provide free medical care including primary care, mammograms, COVID-19 vaccinations, lab services, prescriptions, lung cancer screening, and other healthcare services. Hundreds of volunteers from Ascension Providence, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, senior leaders and other hospital staff will participate in the Medical Mission at Home. More than 1,000 of Waco’s most vulnerable residents are expected to receive medical attention with personalized, compassionate care.

Community partner Waco Family Medicine will provide dental screenings for both adults and children. Nearly 30 other community partners will also be on site to offer resources, including HOT Workforce Solutions, Mission Waco, Caritas, Salvation Army, Waco PD and many others.

“Many individuals in McLennan County are uninsured or underinsured and struggle to find access to affordable healthcare. Ascension Providence is committed to providing healthcare to all, with special attention to those who are struggling. Medical Mission at Home is designed to help our neighbors in need,” said Philip Patterson, president of Ascension Providence. “Medical Mission at Home is a visible demonstration of Ascension Providence living out our mission as a faith-based healthcare system.”

Lack of health insurance is a significant problem in McLennan County, with an estimated uninsured rate of 18 percent by the U.S. Census Bureau. Ascension Providence’s Medical Mission at Home helps connect those who struggle medically and or financially with dozens of community resources.

As Waco’s first hospital, opened in 1905, Ascension Providence has a long history providing a comprehensive continuum of care to the greater Waco community. This is the fourth Medical Mission at Home offered to the Waco community.
