2016 Distinguished Service Award Recipients

Annual gala to honor Rep. Kevin Brady for tax reform work.

The Tax Foundation is pleased to announce Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) as one of the recipients of its 2016 Distinguished Service Awards. Rep. Brady is receiving the honor for his unwavering efforts to build bipartisan consensus to reform the nation’s tax code as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. His passion and energy to push for tax reform no doubt will spur the new president and Congress to action in 2017.

The award will be presented during the Tax Foundation’s 79th Anniversary Dinner and Gala on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. This year’s other honorees are Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon)—ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee—and Janice Mays, a former Ways and Means staffer recently named managing director at PricewaterhouseCoopers’ tax policy services group in Washington.
“Like many, we believe the U.S. tax system is fundamentally broken and is badly in need of reform,” said Tax Foundation President Scott Hodge. “Congressman Brady’s efforts to achieve bipartisan support for tax reform have been crucial in keeping the debate alive. With a new Congress and president in 2017, Congressman Brady will be a key figure in bipartisan efforts to finally overhaul the tax code and move the American economy toward the robust growth it desperately needs.”
Since 1941, the Tax Foundation has honored public figures for their efforts to advance sound tax policy. Previous recipients of Tax Foundation awards have included: Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and George W. Bush; George Shultz; William Simon; Paul Volcker; Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan; Senator Robert Kerrey; Congressman Bill Archer; Senator John Breaux; Senator Connie Mack; Eric Solomon; Congressman Dave Camp; Senator Rob Portman; and Robert Stack.
