Election Day 2018: Key Elections In The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX — Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke senate race, the firefighter pay issue in Houston, and several local congressional races may be stealing a lot of the election day limelight, but there are still plenty of other important issues in the area to vote on outside of Houston.

Here are a few in the Woodlands, Spring and Tomball that may interest voters:

US Rep. District 8: Republican Incumbent Kevin Brady is challenged by Tomball Democrat Steven David and Libertarian candidate Chris Duncan.

Montgomery County Judge: Republican Mark Keough and Democrat Jay Stittleberg are running to replace incumbent Craig Doyal who lost in the Republican primary.

Montgomery County Commissioners: In Precinct 4, Republican incumbent Charlie Riley is running against Democrat Ron Keichline. In Position 2, James Metts runs unopposed.

Conroe ISD: There are three seats up this election with one of those without an incumbent this time. Melanie Bush, who is president of the Conroe ISD board of trustees, is not on the ballot for the position 1 seat. Voters will decide between:

• Paul K. Piper Jr
• Theresa Wagaman
• Dale R. Inman
• Kathleen Harmatuk-Swisher

For the Position 2 seat, incumbent Ray Sanders faces challenges from Kevin McZeal and April Andreski , and in Position 3, incumbent Skeeter Hubert is challenged by Jamie Quinn.

Klein ISD: There are three positions up for election on the Klein ISD school board, with one of those seats not drawing a challenger. Trustee Ronnie Anderson, who serves in Position 5, didn’t draw a challenger in this election. However, Stephen Szymczak, who serves as Position 4 trustee, is challenged by Wade Fennel and Julie Benes.

Tomball ISD: Like all the other districts, Tomball ISD has a number of trustees who are seeking re-election to the school board. In Position 1 Kathy Handler, who has served since 2010, runs unopposed. In Position 2 incumbent Michael Pratt is challenged by Bob Fontenot, while in Position 3, board president John McStravick is challenged by former TISD administrator Joe Ferguson. Board vice president Mark Lewandowski also hopes to keep his position 4 seat, and is challenged by Steven Kent.

The Woodlands: The township board of directors is hoping to hold onto their core leaders as they move toward eventual incorporation. Township Chairman is running unopposed for his Position 1 seat. In Position 2, incumbent Brian Boniface is challenged by Treva Taglieri, while in Position 4, Bruce Rieser is challenged by Francis Dargavage. In Position 3, John Anthony Brown is unopposed.

Voters should remember to bring a valid form or identification when they come to the polls during early voting or on election day.
Acceptable forms of identification include identification with a photograph, such as:

• A valid drivers license
• A US Passport
• A concealed handgun license
• A Military identification card
• A US Citizens certificate with photograph

However, if you don't have any of these, the voter mus fill out a declaration at the polls describing a reasonable impediment to obtaining it, and show a copy or original of one of the following supporting forms of ID:

• A government document that shows your name and an address, including your voter registration certificate
• Current utility bill
• Bank statement
• Government check
• Paycheck
• (a) A certified domestic (from a U.S. state or territory) birth certificate or (b) a document confirming birth admissible in a court of law which establishes your identity (which may include a foreign birth document)
