Frank Elementary School Fire Ruled Possible Arson: UPDATE

Classes have been cancelled for another day at Spring school.

Updated on May 8 at 5:45 p.m.: Investigators with the Klein ISD police department said they had identified a suspect in the fire that broke out early Monday morning at Frank Elementary School. The officials said they believe the fire was a case of arson.

"We had a fire that originated in the kitchen and cafeteria area," Robert Robertson, associate superintendent of facilities and school services, said. "A notice went out about midnight that they had a fire and we have extensive water damage and ceiling damage in the area where the fire began."

Classes at Frank Elementary School have been cancelled for Tuesday, as reported by KTRK, and STAAR testing has been rescheduled as follows:

HOUSTON, TX — A fire that broke out overnight at Frank Elementary School has forced Klein Independent School District officials to cancels classes on Monday. The fire started in the ceiling above the school's cafeteria.

Officials have not released any information about the extent of the damage caused by the fire, nor did they say how long the school could be closed.

STAAR testing, which was scheduled for Monday, will be rescheduled, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. Third and fourth graders had been scheduled to take the math portion of the test.
