High School Football Playoffs: Who Will The Woodlands, TWCA Play?

The 13-6A champion Highlanders have a tough 6A-1 Region II draw, while the Warriors are set for TAPPS Division II. Who will each play first?

THE WOODLANDS, TX — After finishing an 8-2 season, including an unbeaten run to the District 13-6A championship, The Woodlands Highlanders open up the postseason Friday night.

The Woodlands finished the season ranked No. 18 in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football rankings and will host Spring, the No. 8 team, for a bi-district game at 7 p.m. Friday at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

Here's how Region II of the Class 6A Division I playoffs shapes up:

  • Sasche vs. Mesquite
  • No. 4 Duncanville vs. Belton
  • No. 18 The Woodlands vs. No. 8 Spring
  • Klein Cain vs. Cypress Woods
  • No. 12 Rockwall 55, North Garland 14
  • No. 21 DeSoto 65, Harker Heights 28
  • No. 6 Westfield 55, Conroe 21
  • Cypress Ranch vs. Klein Oak

Predictions: Three of four Dave Campbell's staffers picked Duncanville to get out of Region II, with Ishmael Johnson picking Westfield. Johnson also had Westfield as his pick for state champion.

Historical perspective: The Woodlands is making its 27th straight appearance in the playoffs and its 35th appearance overall. The Highlanders' playoff record is 38-34.

In TAPPS play, The Woodlands Christian finished 7-3 with a 2-3 record in district play. The Warriors open the playoffs at top-ranked Austin Regents, which comes in at 10-0.

The game is at 7 p.m. Friday.
