Velvet Taco To Open In The Woodlands In Early February

THE WOODLANDS, TX — Residents of The Woodlands soon will have the opportunity to try tacos inspired by cuisines across the globe.

Velvet Taco, the Dallas-based restaurant chain whose motto is "set my tacos free," is opening a location at 9120 Gosling Road in early February, a company spokesperson confirmed to Patch on Wednesday.

The restaurant has over 30 locations in Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee and Oklahoma, and The Woodlands store will be the sixth Velvet Taco restaurant in the Houston metro. The new spot will take the place of the old Burger King on Gosling Road.

Founded in 2011, Velvet Taco features a one-of-a-kind menu that transforms all types of international cuisines into over 20 taco varieties, all made from scratch in house. Some of the highlight tacos include the Spicy Tikka Chicken, Cuban Pig, Fried Paneer and Fish n' Chips as well as the inventive Chicken & Waffles, which features fried chicken strips, green apple slaw and peppered bacon in a waffle tortilla.

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Velvet Taco's menu is the Weekly Taco Feature, which won a Nation's Restaurant News MenuMasters Award for Best Limited Time Offer in 2020. Each Wednesday, Velvet Taco releases a global, in-season taco that is available for one week only, keeping the restaurant's menu fresh.

Velvet Taco also has a wide selection of beverages, including craft sodas, local and Mexican beers, in-house palomas and ranch waters, fruit-infused ice teas and its signature, house-made Kick Ass Margarita.

The taco shop's signature sides include red curry coconut queso and elote, and hungry patrons can top it off with a slice of house-made red velvet cake for dessert.

Velvet Taco makes it easy for guests to order with options for pick up, dine-in, delivery, catering and digital ordering online and through the Velvet Taco app. The restaurant also offers a loyalty rewards program called The Velvet Room, which allows guests to earn points with every purchase and get rewarded with free tacos, swag, and experiences.
