THE WOODLANDS, TX — Some of the most conditioned athletes in the world will converge on The Woodlands this weekend for the annual Memorial Hermann Ironman North American Championship Triathlon.

The event, which takes place Saturday, draws thousands of athletes, their teams if they have them, and their fans to The Woodlands, and that usually means traffic headaches for residents and anyone not associated with the race.

The swimming portion begins at 6:25 a.m., when the professional contingent begins their open water two-mile swim from North Shore Park and ends in the canal at Town Green Park. The amateurs begin swimming at 6:40 a.m.

The final leg of this grueling race is a 26-mile run entirely within the Woodlands, that ends at the picturesque Woodlands Waterway.

The event takes place for much of the day Saturday and while it could cause traffic headaches ins some areas, the only real closure will be Lake Robbins Drive from Grogans Mill Road to Six Pines Drive.
