Woodlands Man Charged In Sexual Assault Cold Case
After video of an unrelated break-in attempt was shared on social media, the victim identified the man from a 2016 sexual assault.
THE WOODLANDS, TX — A man from The Woodlands was charged Wednesday with sexual assault in a cold case from 2016 after video of an unrelated break-in attempt was shared on social media.
After calling the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office because of an attempted burglary, a woman shared surveillance video of the man attempting to break into an apartment on Six Pines Drive in The Woodlands. Another woman reached out to the caller and told her she recognized the man as the one who sexually assaulted her in 2016, according to authorities.
The man was wearing a Fielding's restaurant shirt in the video and was identified as 33-year-old Marco Antonio Rivera.

Police arrested Rivera at Fielding's Wood Grill, and he is currently in Montgomery County Jail on $1 million bond, according to jail records.

During the initial sexual assault investigation, authorities believed the 2016 case was related to three other cases in 2013, 2016 and 2017. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit is investigating the other three cases and more charges could be brought against Rivera, authorities said.
