The Woodlands Shooting: Suspect Flees From Police, Later Dies
The man shut himself in an apartment after shots were exchanged. Police determined he had died after SWAT failed to make contact.
THE WOODLANDS, TX — A man suspected to be involved in a shooting in The Woodlands died during a barricade situation after he led police on a chase to an apartment where gunfire was exchanged early Sunday, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
The first shooting incident occurred on Red Cedar Circle in The Woodlands, where a man was shot and a later taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.
Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies located the suspect vehicle on South Panther Creek Drive when the suspect crashed into a squad car and drove to the Forest View Apartments at 4545 S. Panther Creek Drive. When deputies approached the apartment where the suspect is believed to have lived, he came outside and fired shots at the deputies, who returned fire before the suspect went back inside and barricaded the apartment, according to authorities.

SWAT and crisis negotiation teams made several attempts to make contact with the man, but were unsuccessful. Montgomery County authorities then used "technological assets" and determined the man had died, police said.

No officers were injured in the shooting, and it is unclear if the suspect was injured in the exchange. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating the man's death, according to authorities.
