ACROSS AMERICA — Miami baseball player Eddy Alvarez made history Saturday after the United States took the silver medal in the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.

With his silver medal, Alvarez is now only the third American athlete to medal in both the summer and winter Games.

Alvarez represented the United States as a speed skater in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, winning the silver medal in the 5,000-meter relay.

The other two Americans to accomplish the feat were Eddie Eagan, who won gold medals in boxing in the 1920 Summer Olympics and on the four-man U.S. bobsled team in the 1932 Winter Olympics. In the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, runner Lauryn Williams won a silver medal. She also won silver as part of a two-woman bobsled team in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
