Pro-Trump Rallies In 36 States Canceled, Moved Online

The group organizing the rallies, ACT for America, most recently organized anti-Sharia rallies across the United States.

ACT for America, the so-called "national security agency" known most recently for organizing anti-Sharia law rallies across the United States, has canceled 67 pro-Trump "America First" rallies in 36 states, citing "the recent violence in America and in Europe." Instead the group said the 67 rallies planned for Sept. 9 will be replaced with an online "Day of ACTion."

The group made the announcement in a statement given exclusively to Breitbart News, which it shared on its website and social media pages. While the group says the rallies were canceled "out of an abundance of caution," the cancellation also comes at the heels of a "Free Speech" rally in Boston where thousands of counter-protesters drowned out a small group of rally-goers.

"These events will be held in memory of those who were lost in the worst terrorist attack targeting American civilians in our history, and to promote our agenda of common sense 'America First' security policies proposed by President Trump, which prioritize real protection over political correctness, and celebrate American exceptionalism," a press release announcing the rallies on Aug. 1 said.

The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies ACT for America as an anti-Muslim group.

Before the groups canceled the rallies altogether, local officials in some cities were already voicing opposition. In Syracuse, New York, the group was denied a permit to hold a rally and the mayor of Milwaukee, Tom Barrett, said he didn't want the group or any Nazi, alt-right or white supremacist organizations to demonstrate in the city.

At the anti-Sharia rallies hosted by the group in June, counter-protesters came out in droves. At just one of the rallies held in Seattle, about 75 people came out to demonstrate against Sharia law while several hundred counter-protesters showed up to drown out the anti-Sharia protest.

As Gizmodo noted, a scan of Facebook event invites for some of the rallies showed that the RSVP list didn't look too promising. At most, a maximum of eight people had RSVPed yes to attending the rallies in Boston and on Cape Cod.

In its statement to Breitbart, the group said any events that continue to be scheduled for Sept. 9 do not have the organization's endorsement.

It is unclear what the online "Day of ACTion" would look like. Patch has reached out to ACT for America for more details.
