AT&T Is Giving $5 To Customers Affected By Massive Outage
The outage last week affected tens of thousands of customers.

AT&T customers whose service was interrupted during Thursday’s massive outage will receive a $5 credit, according to the company.
The issue began about 2:30 a.m. Central Time and the company had more than 73,000 outages as of 8:30 a.m. The network was normalized around noon, with service restoration prioritized for first responders, according to AT&T.
“No matter the timing, one thing is clear — we let down many of our customers, including many of you and your families,” CEO John Stankey said in a letter to employees published Sunday on the company’s website. “For that, we apologize.”

With more than 240 million subscribers, AT&T is the country’s largest carrier.
The company will contact customers who were potentially affected and apply the credit, which is equivalent to the average cost of a full day of service. The credit — which does not apply to AT&T Business, AT&T Prepaid or Cricket — will be granted in one or two bill cycles.

"Our initial review of the cause of Thursday’s outage indicates it was due to the application and execution of an incorrect process used while working to expand our network, not a cyber attack," AT&T said on its website.
There is no evidence the attack involved a third party or compromised customer data, according to the company.
