Anthony Kennedy Retirement: Trump's List Of Possible Replacements

Anthony Kennedy, a swing vote in numerous Supreme Court decisions, is retiring. Here's who could replace him.

President Trump said on Wednesday that his replacement for Justice Anthony Kennedy's seat on the Supreme Court would be someone from a list of 25 people he had compiled during the 2016 election.

"It will be somebody from that list," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Kennedy, a swing vote on the court on several 5-4 decisions, announced his retirement from the bench on Wednesday. The nomination process to replace Kennedy is expected to be heated as Trump has the opportunity shift the makeup of the court. Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said the Senate will vote in the fall on Kennedy's replacement but Democrats are already voicing their opposition as McConnell refused to give Obama's nominee to replace Antonin Scalia a hearing, let alone a vote.
