Charlie Rose Accused Of Sexual Harassment; Suspended By CBS

The longtime host of "Charlie Rose" has been accused of engaging in lewd behavior with women, according to a report published Monday.

Charlie Rose, the longtime host of "Charlie Rose" and co-host of "CBS This Morning," has been accused of sexual misconduct by eight women, all of whom spoke with The Washington Post.

According to the Post, the women either worked for Rose or hoped for jobs on his show. Five of the women spoke on the condition of anonymity, and three spoke with the Post on the record. The behaviors the women alleged include inappropriate touching, groping and multiple instances of walking naked in front of women.

In a lengthy statement to the Post, Rose said he deeply apologizes for his inappropriate behavior and accepts responsibility, though he added that not all of the allegations are true. Rose later published the same statement to his Twitter account. (You can read the full statement below.)

Rose has since been suspended by CBS and PBS is suspending the distribution of his show. Rose owns his TV show though it is distributed by PBS and it appears every weeknight on the channel and in primetime on Bloomberg Television, which is also suspending the show. Rose is also a contributing correspondent to "60 Minutes."

Two of the women who spoke to the Post said the unwanted sexual advances were made at Rose's homes in Bellport, New York, and in New York City. One woman, Kyle Godfrey-Ryan, one of Rose's assistants in the mid-2000s, recalled to the Post that he walked naked in front of her at least a dozen times. Godfrey-Ryan claims Rose fired her once he learned she had told a mutual friend about the behavior.

At least two other women who spoke to the Post alleged that he appeared nude or semi-nude in front of them. Another woman claimed Rose groped her breasts. One of the women said Rose appeared nude in front of her in a semi-tethered bathrobe and attempted to put his hands down her pants, according to the Post.

Rhea Bravo, whom Rose offered a job organizing his books and tapes out of his home in Bellport, told the Post Rose groped her and one time asked if she had seen him shower — seeming disappointed when she said no.

While Bravo was in Bellport, a male producer reportedly sent her a message saying she should not hesitate to call a car to return home if Rose does anything "sketchy."

The accusations against Rose come on the same day star New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush was accused of sexual misconduct by several women in a report published by Vox. Thrush has been suspended from the Times pending an investigation.

Rose is the latest in a series of power figures in the media and entertainment who has been accused of inappropriate behavior by women. Many of the accusations have come in the aftermath of the allegations made against film mogul Harvey Weinstein that were first revealed by The New York Times.
