George H.W. Bush: Late President To Lie In State At U.S. Capitol

Congressional leaders have announced details for when the 41st president will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol.

George H.W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States, will lie in state at the United States Capitol, Congressional leaders announced.

In a statement, House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said a bicameral arrival ceremony will be held on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. The public will be able to pay their respect from Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. until Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Funeral arrangements beyond the Capitol ceremony will be announced by the Bush famly.

Also, President Donald Trump has designated Wednesday, Dec. 5 as a national day of mourning.

In a statement, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump is scheduled to speak with the late president's son, former President George W. Bush, to offer condolences on behalf of himself, the first lady and the entire country.

A state funeral is being arranged with accompanying support and honors. Sanders said Trump and the first lady will attend the funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. Trump did not attend the funeral of Arizona Sen. John McCain at the National Cathedral in September.

Bush will be laid to rest on the grounds of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Trump, who is in Argentina for the G-20 summit, said he was postponing a press conference scheduled for Saturday in Buenos Aires until after the funeral.
