Kellyanne Conway: 'Difficult' To Call Myself A Feminist
Merriam-Webster noted a spike in searches for the definition of "feminism" after her talk.

Searches for the definition of "feminism" spiked Thursday after Kellyanne Conway, a senior counselor to President Trump, mentioned the topic in comments delivered at the Conservative Political Action Conference, according to Merriam-Webster.
Asked how she would explain "conservative feminism," Conway said, "Well, I believe this generation, particularly the younger people, don't really like labels." (For more coverage on CPAC and other political stories, subscribe to the White House Patch for daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
She continued: "It's difficult for me to call myself a feminist in the classic sense because it seems to be very anti-male, and it certainly is very pro-abortion, in this context."

The crowd of conservative activists applauded this line.
"There's an individual feminism, if you will, that you make your own choices," Conway added. "I look at myself as a product of my choices, not a victim of my circumstances. That's really to me what conservative feminism, if you will, is all about."

Merriam-Webster noted in a blog post that the dictionary defines "feminism" as "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities" and "organized activity in support of women's rights and interests."
Women who identify as feminists but oppose abortion rights have frequently felt internal tensions when identifying with the broader fight for gender equality. Organizers for the "Women's March" that followed Donald Trump's inauguration initially allowed, and then revoked, a partnership with "New Wave Feminists," a group that opposes abortion.
