On The Money: Mnuchin Shows Off Dollar Bills With His Signature

Mnuchin posed for a photo with his wife Louise Linton as they hold up a sheet of the new currency with his signature.

WASHINGTON, DC — Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is now literally on the money.

The first $1 notes to bear Mnuchin and U.S. Treasurer Jovita Carranza’s signatures were minted Wednesday, and the two took a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to see the currency firsthand.

Prior to the bills being printed, Mnuchin and Carranza provided the bureau with a sample of 10 signatures. The currency engravers then chose one of each to go on the new bills, which will be shipped to the Federal Reserve banks throughout the country, and are expected to go into circulation in December.

Mnuchin’s wife, Louise Linton, joined him and Carranza at the bureau Wednesday, and she posed for a photo with Mnuchin as he held up a sheet of the new bills.

Linton drew criticism in August when she posted a photo of herself on Instagram that showed her and Mnuchin walking off a government plane in Kentucky. In the photo caption, Linton tallied off a number of designer brands that she was wearing in the picture.

Linton later got into a spat with an Instagram user who commented on the photo, “glad we could pay for your little getaway.”

“Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol,” Linton shot back. “Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.”

Her Instagram account was temporarily set to “private” after the tiff.
