Paul Manafort Ordered Jailed As He Awaits Trial

Manafort was accused of witness tampering by the officer of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller.

A federal judge has ordered Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort to await his trial behind bars after he was accused of witness tampering while under house arrest. At a trial Friday, a federal judge granted the government's motion to revoke or revise the condition of Manafort's release.

Manafort will be jailed pending trial as of Friday, according to court records.

Last week, Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller hit Manafort with a superseding indictment, accusing him of obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Along with Manafort, the indictment also charged Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian political consultant.

According to the indictment, Manafort and Kilimnik attempted to persuade another person "with intent to influence, delay, and prevent the testimony of any person in an official proceeding."

Manafort had been on house arrest as he awaited trial on federal money laundering and conspiracy charges.
