ISIS claimed credit for the brutal attacks that killed more than 40 victims.

WASHINGTON, DC — Egypt has declared a state of emergency after two devastating suicide bombings killed more than 40 victims and injured dozens more at churches on Palm Sunday, shaking a country already struggling with political turmoil.
President Trump issued a statement from the White House Press Office Monday in support of the country and its president, whom Trump met with just last week. "President Donald J. Trump spoke yesterday with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt to convey his deepest condolences to Egypt and to the families who lost loved ones in the heinous terrorist attacks against Christian churches on Palm Sunday," the statement said.
It continued: "President Trump condemned the attacks that killed and injured dozens of Egyptians. The President also expressed his confidence in President Al Sisi's commitment to protect Christians and all Egyptians."

ISIS has claimed credit for the Palm Sunday bombings and has pledged to carry out more attacks. The state of emergency that was declared in response will extend for three months. Some worry that the state of emergency will only give Al Sisi more latitude to oppress his people, who already live under a regime accused of extensive and brutal human rights abuses.
