President Trump Defends Michael Flynn's Requests For Immunity

"This is a witch hunt," the president declared on Twitter.

WASHINGTON, DC — President Trump on Friday supported Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, who has asked for immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying about the probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"Mike Flynn should ask for immunity in that this is a witch hunt (excuse for big election loss), by media & Dems, of historic proportion!" Trump said.

According to NBC News, the Senate Intelligence Committee refused Flynn's request for immunity on Friday, at least for now.

Prior to the election, both Flynn and Trump said requests for immunity were deeply suspicious.

“If you're not guilty of a crime, what do you need immunity for?” Trump said at a September 27, 2016 campaign rally.

Flynn made similar remarks in regards to Clinton's staffers on Meet the Press on Sept. 30:

“The only time you give somebody immunity is if they've committed a crime," he said.
