Revised Immigration Ban Delayed, White House Says

The Trump administration announced it would rescind the initial order after it faced obstacles in the courts.

President Trump will delay the release of a revised executive order on immigration, which is intended to replace the controversial directive restricting entry by refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, the White House confirmed to Patch.

During a press conference last Thursday, the president had said a new order would be signed this week and the previous order would be rescinded. Other officials reiterated this plan.

Senior policy adviser Stephen Miller said Tuesday night on Fox News that the new executive order would "have the same basic policy outcome" as the first directive. Though the White House continues to insist that the first order was legally above board, the revised version would presumably be tailored to avoid the legal challenges that resulted in the a complete suspension of the immigration ban.

Ideally for the administration, its rollout and implementation would go much more smoothly than the first attempt, which was accompanied by conflicting messages from the administration, mass confusion and considerable distress at airports, and large-scale protests.

Reports suggested early this week that the revised version of the order was nearly finalized. A spokeswoman for the White House declined to respond to inquires about why the new executive order had been delayed.
