On Bill O'Reilly:

  • “I think he’s a person I know well — he is a good person.”
  • “I think he shouldn’t have settled; personally I think he shouldn’t have settled."
  • "Because you should have taken it all the way. I don’t think Bill did anything wrong.” (New York Times)

The context: Trump defended O'Reilly as advertisers are feeling his show, the result of a growing sexual misconduct scandal. The Times published a story over the weekend recounting multiple stories of O'Reilly settling lawsuits over alleged sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. Trump also declared April Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

On Susan Rice:

  • “I think it’s going to be the biggest story.”
  • “It’s such an important story for our country and the world. It is one of the big stories of our time.”
  • Does Trump think Rice committed a crime? "Do I think? Yes, I think.” (New York Times)

The context: Right-wing media outlets have been pushing a narrative that Susan Rice is guilty of a crime, or at least wrongdoing, when she requested the names of Trump associates to be "unmasked" in her role as President Obama's national security adviser, as reported by Bloomberg. There is no evidence she did anything illegal or illicit, as such requests are well within the purview of her previous position. Trump continues to defend allegations he made that Obama wiretapped Trump tower, but no evidence for this claim has emerged either.
