Trump Fundraising Petition Asks Supporters If They Stand For National Anthem
The petition, launched by The Trump Make America Great Again Committee, asks for supporters to show their "patriotism and support."

Amping up pressure on the NFL, a fundraising committee for President Trump and Vice President Pence launched a petition asking for supporters of the president to sign it if they stand for the national anthem. The move comes in the wake of an NFL meeting where attendees said altering the league policy to force players to stand was not discussed.
"The President has asked for a list of supporters who stand for the National Anthem," the petition says. "Add your name below to show your patriotism and support." It's not clear how many people have signed the petition.
The White House has forced the issue of players kneeling during the national anthem into the national conversation, painting it is a matter of disrespecting the flag and the country. Those kneeling have repeatedly said the protests are meant to draw attention to racial injustice and police brutality.

Since the president brought up the issue at a rally in Alabama nearly a month ago, saying those who kneel should be fired, he has tweeted about the issue at least a dozen times. He most recently tweeted about the issue on Wednesday after Commissioner Roger Goodell and several team owners met at the league's fall meeting in New York City.
.@NFL: Too much talk, not enough action. Stand for the National Anthem.
