Trump Resurfaces Conspiracy Theory About News Host Scarborough
Hours after NBC News announced Matt Lauer had been fired, Trump attacked MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.

WASHINGTON, DC — Hours after NBC News fired “Today” show host Matt Lauer after a sexual misconduct claim Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to ostensibly fuel a conspiracy theory about MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.
“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.
The “unsolved mystery” Trump appears to be referring to is the death of Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old aide to then-congressman Scarborough who died in his district office after falling and hitting her head in 2001.

The Tampa Bay Times reported after Klausutis’ death: “Medical Examiner Dr. Michael Berkland has said Klausutis, 28, of Niceville, lost consciousness because of an abnormal heart rhythm and fell, hitting her head on a desk. The head injury caused the death, Berkland said.”
There is no evidence to suggest Scarborough was involved in Klausutis’ death, and he has fervently attacked bloggers and others who have made any suggestion that he was.

In a tweet Wednesday, Scarborough wrote: "Looks like I picked a good day to stop responding to Trump's bizarre tweets. He is not well."
Trump has a long-standing feud with “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and his fiancé Mika Brzezinski. In June, he tweeted a personal insult to Brzezinski, writing she was “bleeding badly from a facelift” when they were together at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s Palm Beach resort.
On Wednesday morning, Lauer’s “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie told viewers at the top of the show Wednesday morning that he had been fired after a detailed complaint was made against him Monday night.
Guthrie read from a memo written by NBC News Chairman Andy Lack, announcing Lauer’s dismissal. "It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company's standards. As a result, we've decided to terminate his employment," Lack said in the memo.
Trump tweeted after the announcement, “Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.” But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!”
