The two leaders will address members of the media at 1:45 p.m. from the Rose Garden. Trump is expected to welcome the hard-right Brazilian leader at noon on Tuesday. A senior administration official said Trump and Bolsonaro have spoken on a couple of occasions and the reference to Bolsonaro as "Trump of the Tropics" has caught the president's attention.
The official said the U.S.-Brazil relationship has always been one of potential but it seemed that the potential has never been met and said "this is a historic remaking" of that relationship.
