White House Holds Annual Easter Egg Roll (Photos)

The yearly event represents an important part of the White House's role in American life.

WASHINGTON, DC — The White House held the annual "Easter Egg Roll" on Monday, the yearly event in which the home of the president is opened up to the public and kids fill the landmark's lawn.

While it's a lighthearted event, the day represents an important part of the president's job above and beyond the stern commander-in-chief role and administrative duties. It is in part a celebration of the public-facing job of the president as a representative of the government to and for the citizenry. And from a partisan angle, the event serves as good public relations for the president.
