Rachel Z is a keyboardist with a long history of award-winning performances in the worlds of jazz and rock. She co-wrote the Grammy-winning song ‘Tokyo Blue’ with saxophonist Najee. In addition to her 13 albums as bandleader and her work in internationally acclaimed bands such as Steps Ahead, Vertú, the Omar Hakim Experience, and OZmosys, she has played and toured with artists like Wayne Shorter (on the Grammy-winning album High Life), Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Terri Lyne Carrington, Al Di Meola, and Regina Carter. Rachel came to worldwide prominence in the rock world in the Peter Gabriel concert films Growing Up Live and Still Growing Up Live.
Omar Hakim is widely known as a rock and pop, jazz and jazz fusion drummer/producer/composer and arranger. His lengthy associations with Weather Report, Miles Davis, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Sting, Madonna, Kate Bush, Dire Straits, Daft Punk, Brian Ferry, Michael Jackson, The Pussycat Dolls, Journey and countless others put him in a category that has uniquely imprinted the sound of these artists on both performances and recordings. Omar has recorded on over 100 albums (too many to list) and has extensive producer and composer credits.

Baltimore's Lafayette Gilchrist is a jazz pianist, but when his powerhouse funk/jazz band the New Volcanoes backs him up, listeners also get something different: a go-go beat. Gilchrist describes go-go, a style native to Washington, D.C., and its environs, as "almost like a slowed-down James Brown, but you have a combination of African rhythms." Blended with his jazz piano playing, that's the sound of Gilchrist's latest album, New Urban World Blues, released this May. Lafayette is not only a penetrating and sensitive artist, but also a composer who does not shy away from the influences of the greatest artists who inspire him to look for stylistic references. Brian Lenair, Washington, DC’s saxophone phenomenon, is a gifted musician who treats his instrument as an extension of himself. Under the tutelage and influence of masters, like Grover Washington, Jr. and Stanley Turrentine, Brian has more than twenty-five successful years in the music industry. Lenair was the frontman for the legendary group, Spur of the Moment, and sideman for several national recording greats, such as Angela Winbush, Jean Carne, and Will Downing (featured on his latest single – “Going Up Yonder”). Lenair has garnered acclaim in the Smooth Jazz world, with five nationally produced music CDs and two Top 15 Billboard Singles. In 2023, he was a recipient of the Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service and a 2024 finalist in the 36th Annual Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies).

Raydio came out of the box red hot, and continued a chart run for several decades with melodic songs and lush vocals to match. Formed by guitarist supreme Ray Parker Jr, the original band included Jerry Knight, Vincent Bonham and Arnell Carmichael, and scored 4 Gold Albums during the 70s and 80s, with 20 singles that ranked high in the U.S. R&amp;B and pop charts. Some of the groups biggest hits include “You Can’t Change That”, “ Jack &amp; Jill”, “Two Places”, “For Those Who Like Too Grove”, “A Woman Needs Love”, and many more. In 2014, original lead singer and member Arnell Carmichael reformed the group and started touring once again, performing all of Raydio’s hits. They recruited other musicians and toured with artists like the DeBarges, Switch, and War.

Ebban Dorsey, 21-year-old alto saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, is from Baltimore, Maryland and has studied with Blake Meister, Carl Grubbs, Tim Green, and Gary Thomas. Ebban has gained a lot of experience playing Jazz and has even performed with Carl Grubbs, Gary Bartz (Performed on a live recording for the documentary titled, “Blues Chronicles”), Kamasi Washington, John Lamkin, Warren Wolf, Benito Gonzales, Kenny Garett, Tia Fuller, Sean Jones, Wycliffe Gordon, Tanya Darby, Erica Von Kleist, Mimi Jones, Shamie Royston, Reginald Thomas, Allison Miller, José James, Matthew Stevens, The Chuck Redd Band, Christian Scott, and many more. She was a member of NYO Jazz 2020 as well as NYO Jazz 2021 and recorded an album with the 2021 Jazz band. She has also performed a jazz rendition of “This Land is Your Land” at the Baltimore Orioles stadium as part of the “Women of Music” concert series, and later performed the national anthem alongside Ephraim Dorsey for the 2020 season opener. Ebban Dorsey is an extraordinary musician with a bright future ahead of her.
Ephraim Dorsey, 22-year-old tenor saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, is from Baltimore, Maryland and has studied with Blake Meister, Carl Grubbs, Tim Green, and Gary Thomas. Ephraim has gained a lot of experience playing Jazz and has performed with Carl Grubbs, Gary Bartz (Performed on a live recording for the documentary titled, “Blues Chronicles”), Kamasi Washington (participated in a film project entitled, “As told to G/D thyself”’, which is available for viewing on iTunes and the Apple Store), Kenny Garett, John Lamkin, Warren Wolf, Benito Gonzales (Performed with at the twins Jazz Club), Kris Funn, Sean Jones, Wycliffe Gordon, Erica Von Kleist, Reginald Thomas, The Chuck Redd Band, Christian Scott, and many more. Rodriguez was born into a musical family, his father a popular singer and TV host. Martinez, on the other hand, honed his craft on the streets of Havana, learning the deeply-rooted percussion and vocal style of Afro-Cuban folkloric and religious music.

The United States Naval Academy Band proudly presents a performance of the iconic jazz album Birth of the Cool. This concert celebrates 2026 as the 250th year in the history of the United States of America and the 100th anniversary of the birthday of one of the most important and influential American musicians, Miles Davis (1926-1991). The ethereal, and at times mysterious, Birth of the Cool arrangements by Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan (and others) featured Davis surrounded by a distinct instrumentation, including the non-common jazz instruments of French Horn and Tuba. Join us as we commemorate 250 years of the United States, America's classical music, and the centennial of this iconic American artist, Miles Davis!
The United States Naval Academy Band was formed in November of 1852 by order of the Secretary of the Navy. The band’s primary mission is to provide musical support to the Superintendent, Commandant, and Brigade of Midshipmen. These dedicated professionals are known across the nation as “The Navy’s Oldest and Finest Band!” Our members have studied at prominent music schools and conservatories nationwide and have extensive experience in performance and teaching. The Naval Academy Band takes pride in representing the Naval Academy’s tradition of excellence.

One of the great jazz guitarists of his generation, Mike Stern has the unique ability to play with the finesse and lyricism of Jim Hall, the driving swing of Wes Montgomery and the turbulent, overdriven attack of Jimi Hendrix. Growing up in the Washington, D.C. area, Stern revered all three of those guitar immortals, along with such potent blues guitarists as Albert and B.B. King. Aspects of those seminal influences can be heard in his playing on the 18 recordings he has released as a leader or in his acclaimed sideman work for Miles Davis, Billy Cobham, the Brecker Brothers, Jaco Pastorius, Steps Ahead, David Sanborn, Blood, Sweat &amp; Tears, Joe Henderson and the all-star Four Generations of Miles band.
Dennis Chambers is an American drummer who has recorded and performed with John Scofield, George Duke, Brecker Brothers, Santana, Parliament/Funkadelic, John McLaughlin, Niacin, Mike Stern, CAB, Greg Howe, and many others. Despite a lack of formal training, Chambers has become well known among drummers for his technique and speed. Chambers is particularly regarded for his ability to play "in the pocket" but can also stretch very far out of the pocket which is also a hallmark of his technique. 
Gary Grainger is a self-taught jazz/fusion bassist from Baltimore. Gary joined the group Pockets in the 70s; a protege-group with a distribution-deal at American Recording Company (ARC), a boutique-label of Earth, Wind, &amp; Fire. He recorded and toured with The John Scofield Band, which included his Baltimore-buddy, session drummer Dennis Chambers.
Leni Stern was named one of the “50 Most Sensational Female Guitarists of All Time” in Guitar Player magazine’s 50th anniversary issue in 2017, with the publication aptly dubbing her “a genre-defying adventurer.” Leni’s example shines beyond just prowess on her instrument, with the pursuit of her career spanning more than four decades.
Bob Franceschini is well known from his work with guitarist Mike Stern. They are still touring the globe together. He has recorded on Stern‘s last five Grammy nominated CD’s as well as two critically acclaimed DVD’s.

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Joshua Watkins is a masterful drummer and brilliant artist whose sound is rooted in spirit, and purpose. Now based in Baltimore, Maryland, Joshua is pursuing his master’s degree at the prestigious Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. On February 4th, 2026, he will make his debut appearance as a bandleader at Keystone Korner, performing with his ensemble, Ascension. The term “Ascension” embodies the journey of elevating oneself to a realm of greater significance, status, or achievement. Joshua Watkins and Ascension takes listeners on an evocative exploration of life’s peaks and troughs, navigating through trials and tribulations, experiencing the highs and lows. Throughout this captivating journey, the only trajectory is upwards.
A 2024 graduate of Michigan State University, where he studied under jazz great Randy Gelispie, Joshua has quickly established himself as a rising voice in the next generation of jazz artists. His debut album, REDEMPTION — released in May 2025 — is a deeply personal and spiritually driven body of work that reflects his walk with God, his growth, and his triumphs.

Electrifying Saxophonist Isaac S. Parham, native from Baltimore, Maryland is an energetic, versatile, composer and entertainer, who has performed on stage with such artists as The Jacksons, Regina Belle, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ramsey Lewis, Ron Carter, Cyrus Chestnut, Brian McKnight, Dennis Chambers, The Chi-Lites, Maysa, Kim Waters, Maurette Brown Clark and many others. This versatile musician has toured in Canada with the show Ain’t Misbehavin, and throughout the East Coast. 
Craig Alston is Baltimore born and based multi-instrumentalist and composer, best known for his complex yet soulful sound on the saxophone. Craig has performed with notable musicians such as Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Jonathan Butler, Brian Culbertson, Najee, Norman Brown Frank McComb, Dennis Chambers, Eric Robeson and Larry Willis; legendary groups such as the O'Jays, The Temptations and The Four Tops; as well as Soulful Symphony and the Cab Calloway Orchestra. He was the saxophonist for Fertile Ground and lead the Eubie Blake Legacy Band for over 7 years. Craig received the 2013 Jazz Journalists Jazz Heroes Award and was the winner of the 2011 Chick Webb Jazz Combo Competition. 
Social Music Artist Marcus H. Mitchell is not only an established saxophonist and pianist; he is also the CEO and President of 24th Music, a division of MHM Entertainment Group—a multi-faceted entertainment company. Marcus's music will take you on a journey through any type of setting, providing an array of experiences related to all things social. Marcus has worked with many artists, such as Sam Moore, Ronnie Laws, Kim Waters, Steve Cole, Chuck Brown, Sugar Bear of EU, Little Benny, El DeBarge, Chico DeBarge, Branford Marsalis, CRegina Belle, Jordin Sparks, Janelle Monáe, Ledisi, and Destiny's Child, just to name a few.
Eugene Chapman began playing saxophone at the age of nine, but he didn’t take it seriously until he entered his teens. Once he focused on his craft, he knew that he’d found his passion. He has performed with musicians and opened for musicians including Denise Williams, Fertile Ground, Eryka Badu and Robin Thicke. This dynamic saxophonist, composer and arranger rounds out Yonnet’s horn section adding power and punch to Reed My Lips.

A protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a small town in the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949, just two years after Gillespie became the first musician to bring Latin influences into American Jazz. Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but it didn’t take him long to catch the excitement of the jazz world. He has since evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugelhorn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.
He is one of the most dynamic and vivacious live performers of our time, and has been seen by millions at the Oscars, at the Grammy Awards, and the Billboard Awards. Musicians and fans alike rightly marvel at his technical ability on the horn - the effortless high notes and the dizzying speed and execution of his improvised runs.

Savor an angelic and romantic evening with DC-based vocalist and songwriter Cecily, (pronounced ses-suh-lee), who is known for her agile soprano and honest lyrics. “I Am Love,” released in October 2023, is the first single from Awakening Pt.II, Cecily’s eagerly anticipated continuation of the critically acclaimed Awakening Pt. 1. The album interweaves Cecily's life experiences with inspiration from the book All About Love by Black feminist writer Bell Hooks. The single specifically focuses on the importance of affirmations, as discussed in the text, with the heart – and title – from the track rooted in the power of reminding yourself: “I Am Love.”

World renowned bassist, composer, arranger, educator, and eight-time GRAMMY Award-winner, Christian McBride has been one of the most important and prolific figures in the jazz world for over 20 years. From jazz to R&amp;B, and pop/rock and hip-hop/neo-soul to classical, Christian is one of the most acclaimed bassists of his generation, renowned for his bold, swinging style and robust sound. He has appeared on more than 300 recordings as a sideman, and is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, earning a 2016 GRAMMY Award for “Best Improvised Jazz Solo”, the only bassist to ever win at this category.

Christian McBride & Ursa Major 

A jazz pioneer, Louis Armstrong was the first important soloist to emerge in jazz, and he became the most influential musician in the music's history. As a trumpet virtuoso, his playing charted a future for jazz in highly imaginative, emotionally charged improvisation. But Armstrong also became an enduring figure in popular music due to his distinctively phrased baritone singing and engaging personality, which were on display in a series of vocal recordings and film roles. His biggest hits include “What A Wonderful World,” “La Vie En Rose,” “Summertime,” “West End Blues,” “When You're Smilin',” “Blueberry Hill,” “Hello, Dolly!” and more.
Gunhild Carling is the epitome of joy in everything she does as a dazzling singer, dancer, and multi-instrumental genius. This International Jazz star plays several instruments such as trombone, trumpet, recorder, bagpipe, harmonica, drums and piano, and has toured extensively around the world with her Swedish Family and other All Star Bands. She was featured in several of Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox's adaptations of pop songs, which include a jazz swing version of Rick Astley's "Never Going to Give You Up", a 1920s jazz swing version of "Material Girl", a vintage jazz version of Europe's "The Final Countdown", a jazz cover of Pharrell Williams' "Happy", and a 1920s hot jazz cover of ABBA's "Dancing Queen".
