Mokena VFW Post #725 and the Ladies Auxiliary are hosting a blood drive on Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tickets for the 25th annual Mokena Lions Club's Firecracker Festival Dance & Sweepstakes are currently on sale. Tickets are $10 on presale, or $15 at the door. The event is Saturday, July 14, from 6 p.m.-midnight.

The Mokena Community Park District will host a Movies in the Park event on Friday, July 27. The park district will be showing "Smurfs," rated PG, beginning at about 8:45 p.m. The event is free to the public.
LaGrange Wine & Spirits was approved for a special use permit to sell beer, wine, liquor and more at 19155 S. LaGrange Road. The business will bring the shopping center at the location to 100-percent occupancy.
Residents and motorists along Wolf Road might have noticed it was a little darker than usual on Sunday night, as streetlights along the road went dark due to a mechanical failure.
Board members pondered plans for a job training facility for developmentally challenged adults. The facility would sit on 10 acres at 191st and 88th Avenue, would be run by a nonprofit company and would be exempt from paying sales and property taxes.

Following a two-day ban on outdoor watering, the Village of Mokena will lift the ban July 10. However, outdoor watering restrictions are still in effect during evening hours.
2012 is a "banner year," for the Village of Mokena, as the Village nets more than $4.5 million in sales tax revenue. The money is earmarked for general operating costs and infrastructure work.
The Mokena Downtown Merchants are host cruise nights along Front Street, every Sunday through September from 5-8 p.m. Free food and beverages are available for those who attend the events.
The Mokena Community Park District is holding a summer flea market July 15, beginning at 8 a.m. There will be fresh produce, crafts, clothing, tools and more for sale, throughout the day.
