There are a lot less steps involved in making a frame from scratch for a painting than to make a frame for works on paper. That being said, there still are a couple of tricks that are helpful to know to make a frame by hand at a professional level. This class will teach you everything you need to get started and allow you to frame 2 paintings. 
Note: Student’s will be required to provide paintings that they wish to be framed. Size limit of 24 x 36 for paintings. Expensive wood such as Walnut will be available if requested. Market prices fluctuate and students will be consulted before any purchases are made for them. To reduce the hazard sawdust poses to students’ health, all woodworking in this class will be done outside with a mask. 
Week 1: Cut and Glue Frame stock. 
Week 2: Splines, Sand, and Apply finish to Frame. 
Week 3: Cut and Glue Second frame 
Week 4: Mount Artwork in Frames

 Making Floating Frames for Painting with Hand Tools with William Demaria - 4 Weeks

Wednesday, January 7- February 25th, 6:30 to 8:30 P.M.
Have you ever wondered how and why the impressionist painted the way they did? Would you like to learn to paint like an impressionist yourself? Around the turn of the 20th century, there were dramatic changes in the art world. Where previous generations of artists once favored rigid techniques and spending thousands of hours in studios glazing hundreds of layers of paint, now artists aspired to create more immediate paintings and tried to more directly capture the world they saw. This class, meant for students at all skill levels, will start from the ground up teaching students how to mix colors like the impressionists and introduce students to various techniques that evolved in the late 1800s and early 1900s. All supplies are included with the class as students will be encouraged to try out different paints, brushes, and other painting materials throughout the class. 
Week 1: Still life- Drawing with paint
Week 2: Still life - Color theory 
Week 3: Still life- Alla prima painting 
Week 4: Landscape- TREESS!!!! 
Week 5: Landscape- composition 
Week 6: Landscape – tonalism 
Week 7: Independent Projects

Take a creative journey through free form art in different disciplines: drawing and painting, mono print and collage, mixed media and assemblage.
This course invites participants to break free from traditional boundaries and dive into creating from nothing. By exploring multiple mediums and methods, you’ll discover your intuition to express emotions, stories, and concepts in unique, non-representational ways.

Explore monotype printing to create your whimsical artwork. We will print freeform monotypes and combine materials to create chine collé, collage, hand-painted prints and/or notecards. Tme to be free and whimsical. Students will work on their own during the course. No experience necessary.
