• Millcreek City Council selects Cheri Jackson to serve as new mayor (millcreekjournal.com) — Millcreek Councilmember Cheri Jackson has been unanimously chosen by the city council to finish retiring Mayor Jeff Silvestrini’s term, following a special Nov. 3 selection process. After in-depth public interviews with five candidates, councilmembers cited Jackson’s experience, focus on housing affordability, infrastructure and community cohesion, and she has now been sworn in as mayor, triggering a future election to fill her council seat.

(deseret.com) — New state data shows Utah’s high school dropout rate has been cut in half, with nearly 90% of students graduating, including those at Skyline High in Millcreek. Educators celebrate gains among historically underserved groups but warn that declining reading proficiency, especially in middle grades, threatens long-term success. State leaders are pushing targeted, evidence-based reading interventions to close these gaps.
   

• Millcreek adopts Bolder Way Forward resolution to support women and girls (millcreekjournal.com) — Millcreek has officially become a “Bolder Way Forward City,” after the city council unanimously adopted a resolution supporting a statewide initiative to improve opportunities and safety for women, children and families. Local leaders highlighted Millcreek’s female-majority council and women department heads, and framed the move as part of a broader push to counter Utah’s low rankings on women’s equality and leadership.
