The pantry’s efforts just earned it Smith’s Zero Hunger Hero award and $1,000 in store credit, helping keep shelves stocked for neighbors in need across Tooele County.
   

• Tooele Valley Meats releases statement on suspension (tooeleonline.com) — A longtime Tooele-area meat processor has apologized after a USDA suspension over how a trapped, injured steer was handled, saying it acted improperly but has since adopted new emergency protocols and regained its operating status. Animal-rights group PETA has asked the Tooele County Attorney to consider criminal charges, and local officials have not yet commented, so more developments may directly affect this local business and its customers.
