VT Man Uses Excavator To Try Stopping Police From Arresting Son: Cops

Dashboard camera footage captured the moment a Vermont father swung an excavator bucket at two state troopers.

HARDWICK, VT — A Vermont man is facing charges after authorities said he attacked two state troopers with an excavator to stop them from arresting his son.

On June 21, Vermont State Police traveled to Hardwick to arrest a man on burglary and assault charges, authorities confirmed in a Facebook post. The man was identified by WCAX-TV as 24-year-old Brandon Tallman.

When troopers arrived at Tallman's home, a dashboard camera captured his parents — identified by WCAX as Wayne and Amy Tallman — trying to stop the arrest, authorities said.

In the video, Amy Tallman is seen in a black dress getting into an altercation with troopers as they try to arrest Brandon Tallman, according to WCAX.

Wayne Tallman is then seen climbing into the cab of an excavator. Shortly after, video shows him lowering the excavator's bucket and trying to hit troopers with it.

"They don’t have a scenario at the academy where we practice this one," Vermont State Police said on Facebook.

No one was injured during the incident, police said.

Wayne Tallman is now facing charges including reckless endangerment and assault on a protected official, WCAX reported. Amy Tallman is charged with impeding an officer.
