• Parents and providers fear Rutland Regional Medical Center's planned pediatric closure would jeopardize patient health and drive up costs (vtdigger.org) — Rutland families could soon lose local inpatient pediatric beds at Rutland Regional Medical Center, forcing many sick children to be treated in the ER or transferred hours away. Parents, nurses, and pediatricians are urging state regulators to block the planned Dec. 21 closure, warning it could endanger kids, strain local EMS, and increase emotional and financial burdens on Rutland-area households. 
• Federal cuts reduce Section 8 vouchers as Vermont housing demand increases (wcax.com) — Section 8 housing vouchers that help many Rutland residents stay in apartments like Sheldon Towers are being squeezed by federal cuts and rising rents, creating a $10 million statewide shortfall. Local housing officials say more than 200 households are already on waiting lists, while state leaders warn there’s little extra money to plug the gap, deepening Rutland’s affordable housing crunch.
